Jelly Roll and K. Michelle Surprise Dowling During Rehearsals for “The 57th Annual CMA Awards”
The Country Music Association awarded Marcus K. Dowling, The Tennessean’s Nashville Country Music Reporter, with the 2023 CMA Media Achievement Award on Monday, Nov. 6. Dowling was surprised with news of his win backstage at Bridgestone Arena during rehearsals for “The 57th Annual CMA Awards” by five-time CMA Awards nominee and first-time performer Jelly Roll as well as first-time performer K. Michelle. Both Jelly Roll and K. Michelle will take the CMA Awards stage on Wednesday, Nov. 8 to perform “Love Can Build a Bridge.”
The CMA Media Achievement Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of print and internet journalists, columnists, authors, editors, television writers, producers and bookers and syndicated radio reporters in the media as they relate to Country Music. The award is voted on by publicist members of CMA.

A vibrant storyteller, Dowling has had a front row seat reporting on Country Music’s rapid expansion and growing popularity since joining The Tennessean in 2021. The award-winning journalist is also a screenwriter, whose credits include projects with Viacom, A&E Networks and more.
“The 57th Annual CMA Awards,” hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, broadcasts live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Wednesday, Nov. 8 on ABC.
About the Country Music Association
Founded in 1958, the Country Music Association is the first trade organization formed to promote a type of music. CMA created the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961 to recognize artists and industry professionals with Country Music’s highest honor. Music industry professionals and companies across the U.S. and around the globe are members of CMA. The organization serves as an educational and professional resource for the industry and advances the growth of Country Music around the world. This is accomplished through CMA’s core initiatives: the CMA Awards, which annually recognize outstanding achievement in the industry; CMA Fest, which benefits the CMA Foundation and music education and is taped for a three-hour network television special, “CMA Fest”; and “CMA Country Christmas.” All of CMA’s television properties air on ABC.
